My Health

I won't bore you with personal health issues and diagnosis.  I just wanted a place to post interesting things I am learning along the way as I strive to improve my health.  As a typical woman/mother I have spent 25 years putting everyone else's needs before my own and now I pay the price.  With the high cost of health care these days there is a lot we can do to improve our own health and live how we are meant to live. I hope to reduce costs, be a stronger healthier example to my family and empower my girls to listen to their bodies and care for them as diligently as they care for others.  The only personal advice I have to share is to Women of all ages!  You are equally as important as your family and those you serve. Taking care of yourself now, gives you means and opportunities to help and love your families in the future!
Be that example to you families!!!

Simply put : Live Healthy!

Life moves at such a fast pace that it is easy to mindlessly pop food into our mouths without thinking about  or listening to what our body needs or doesn't need! More often than not I grab what is quick and easy than what is healthy or good for me.  We are learning this "My Plate Planner"  is a simplified way to plan our meals and make sure we keep our carbs and calories in check.  It requires a little bit of planning, and mindful eating but seems to be working to help lower blood sugars and give us more energy!!

We are also learning that the size of your plate is very important.

"How to put mindfulness into your eating:   One of the simplest involves the size of your plate. Eating on a smaller plate will help you eat less. Even though you "know" that the food amount is the same, a combination of visual illusions and magical thinking cause you to underestimate the amount you're eating when the plate is large. Your plate should not only be small, but it should also be a contrasting color from the food that's on it. Since the unhealthiest foods we eat tend to be white (mashed potatoes, white rice, bread) the plates we eat on should be dark, not white. People will serve themselves more food when the plate matches the food."  (http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/fulfillment-any-age/201202/put-some-mindfulness-your-eating)
